L'ancètre de Rachael

Written by

First steps of discovery of our students' personal relation to the Great War.

Students from our group travelling to New Caledonia are individually researching their own connections of their ancestors back to WW1.
Our inquiry consists of finding out exactly how many of our group of 23 students travelling to Collège Normandie in Nouméa have direct connections to France through ancestors who were part of WW1.
Students are underway and to date we have 9 students in the project that have established and ancestry connection to La Grande Guerre. As they do find evidence, they are researching both Pakeha and Maori experience of WW1 in our region. Students will also follow up on the experience of one of the Maori soldiers in particular,  in view of our stay on the Marae when our visitors from New Caledonia are with us.

Here is an example of work from Rachael Trowell - Year 10 French Student who has been looking into her family ancestry, their involvement during WW1 and her personal connection to the War through her discovery
