Explore the Great War with a partner school

Written by

Shared Histories is a France-New Zealand school collaboration and exchange programme initiated in partnership with the NZ and French Ministries of Education to commemorate the First World War.

It aims to create a framework for New Zealand and French schools to form partnerships and work on collaborative projects on the theme of WW1.

This year, you may be planning to introduce WW1 as a theme with your class(es). Or you may want to broaden and bring alive your students’ intercultural learning experience through direct exchanges with French-speaking students of the same age, while gaining some language skills.

So why not invite a French class to work with you and your students on a joint project?

Find a partner school on www.sharedhistories.com - a French class is waiting to collaborate and improve their English-speaking ability!

By registering on the Shared Histories online platform, you can contact and establish a partnership with a French school that has interests similar to your own. Many French schools have already posted their profile in the Shared Histories database and are eager to find a Kiwi partner!

Register a project

After you have identified your partner, you can work out a collaborative project with your French colleagues and register it on the Shared Histories platform. Your students can then use blogging space to communicate, exchange ressources with their French counterparts and display their productions.

Create a lasting relationship with a French school

Successful Shared Histories projects can develop into permanent links between partner schools. A number of schools involved in Shared Histories have already arranged trips with their students to visit their French partners, and more are planned to take place this year, particularly around Anzac Day – which is celebrated in France as well!

Apply for funding of your project

Selected projects on WW1 may be eligible for partial funding up to $ 1,500 per year. The money may be used to partially fund a visit to a partner school, to pay for expenses related to the project, or to help hosting the partner school’s students. Funding applications are to be made through the Shared Histories website.
